Many of us burn incense in our rituals or spell work, though very little attention is given to its usual core ingredient; Plant Resin. Whether Frankincense, Myrrh or Benzoin these resins are the heart and soul of many incenses. Working directly with these jewel-like ingredients can deepen our connection to the plant world and enrich our spiritual practices.

If you have read about plant spirit work or are interested in working with plants in a spiritual way – this one-day workshop serves as a good introduction to that path.

Paul Wood has taught Magical Herbalism for nearly two decades. Many of the techniques that are taught during this day are the culmination of his spiritual and magical work, influenced by his training as an integrative psychotherapist and hypnotherapist.

If you have an interest in using plants, herbs and resins for magic, this workshop will improve your ability to work directly with the spirit of those ‘ingredients’. Each plant, herb and resin has a unique ‘spirit’ that a practitioner can tap into to receive insight, wisdom and guidance directly from the plant world.

This work develops the intuition and the instinct, reducing the reliance on books and tables of references. Working in this way means that you know that a certain resin is right to use in a certain product (e.g. incense, or powder) or spell work – with less reliance on looking up its planetary or elemental attributions.

Finally, whether plants are your thing or not – meditation and scrying are skills that are useful to many who are interested in spiritual, magical or occult development.

This workshop is dedicated to working with the resins in an immersive and experiential format. You will spend the day immersing yourself in several resins, forming your own relationship with them and gleaning insights into how you can personally use them for spiritual development, magic and spell work.

The day is focused on practical and spiritual work. Attendees will practise meditation and scrying techniques throughout the day. The work we will undertake can be considered a precursor to ‘plant spirit work’, attendees interested in this work will leave with an entry into this special spiritual discipline.

A large selection of resins will be available for practice. This may include any of the following; Frankincense, Benzoin, Dragon’s Blood, Myrrh, Storax, Opoponax, Bdellium, Wolf’s Milk, Pine resin, Copal…

Who is Paul Wood?

Paul Wood is a sticks and stones type of witch. A lifelong student of the Craft and the Mysteries, he has been teaching ‘Western Esoteric Herbalism’ for over 15 years. During this time he has extensively researched the historical use of plants and herbs in magic, and owned a company dedicated to recreating and selling historic and ancient occult recipes.

He is first and foremost a Witch, though has collected a number of labels over the years; A Wiccan High Priest, an initiate of ceremonial traditions, and a traditional witch amongst them. In the mundane worlds, Paul has a background in integrative psychotherapy, psychology and clinical hypnosis.
