We are thrilled to be exhibiting works by Billy Chainsaw at The Atlantis Bookshop. Billy Chainsaw will present a series of screen prints centred on Aleister Crowley and the constellation of select artists, musicians and occult figures connected to him, both directly and through his enduring influence.
Alongside prints of Crowley himself, the works trace his presence through the worlds of art, music and film, exploring the people and cultural currents through which his ideas, imagery and legacy continue to resonate.
The exhibition coincides with Crowleymass, The Atlantis Bookshop’s annual commemoration of Crowley’s death on 1 December.
About the Artist
Billy Chainsaw is a contemporary Dark Pop Artist whose work blends the pulp and the arcane to engage with ideas of mortality, magick, sensuality and revolution.
Working with paints, screen prints, photographs and clippings, Chainsaw has developed a personal armoury of imagery and gestural approaches that are instantly recognisable and open to constant reinvention.
Chainsaw was a personal creative assistant to the British post-punk band Siouxsie and the Banshees from 1979 to 1996. He has designed an album sleeve for indie superstars The Fall and worked as a film critic and cultural commentator for magazines such as Empire, Bizarre, and Kerrang.
Chainsaw’s work has been shown at London’s Saatchi Gallery, The Horse Hospital, and Fleetwood Gallery in San Francisco.
