We are delighted to welcome Tom back for another practical session.
In this workshop taking place just before Valentine’s Day, you will learn how to make love knots by plaiting stems of soaked wheat and looping them into love hearts. Also learn how to make a hanging love heart by creating two seven straw arrow plaits to form the shape. Finish by decorating with colourful ribbon.
Love knots / harvest tokens were often created on the fields during harvest and given to one’s sweetheart or loved one as a token of affection. They were worn pinned on hats or on their lapel.
Tom Lewis aka Daddystreetfox is a Hackney based artist who in recent years has been discovering the endangered heritage craft of wheat weaving, straw art and corn doll making. He is greatly inspired by folklore traditions, urban wildlife, the pagan wheel of the year and in his art he uses materials that nature offers throughout the changing seasons.
