All the world’s religions began with an oral tradition. People debated faith, creation, experience, and wisdom. These traditions were living waters. as they adapted and updated for the times. They were relevant.

Once we began writing the stories down, we set them in stone and they became graven images to argue over. We have been taught what to believe not how to live and to focus on humanity alone. We have become narcissists to nature and deniers of the good in alternative faiths, not least Paganism.

Today we examine the Judaic mystical tradition of Kabbalah which is still taught orally and in groups. This is the only complete Western Mystery Tradition and it is the study of truth and beauty; of creation, soul and spirit. Using its foundational diagrams of The Tree of Life and Jacob’s Ladder, we can ensure that the updating of the teaching still holds firmly to the original structure that defined the Hebrew faith—the menorah. This prevents the tradition from becoming mere Chinese Whispers.

You can be a Kabbalist and a Christian … or a Pagan, or a Hindu or a Muslim or a Buddhist or an agnostic. This is the underlying teaching throughout the Bible, the story of the weaving of creation and the relationship between God, the Universe and humanity. It tells of original blessing, not original sin.

With teaching, discussion and an internal journey, we will find our own, individual, path to the Divine. Expect awe and laughter as we negotiate our way through justice, mercy, discernment, truth and beauty.
