A Workshop with Jason Mankey

Friday 4th May, 7pm-9pm

Cost £5

We are pleased to welcome back Jason Mankey to our shores (and our Shop) to lead us on a very interesting journey through the evolution of magic, Witchcraft and Paganism in America.

There are an estimated two million Witches and Pagans living in the United States, making it one of the largest spiritual groupings in the country.  But how and why did these traditions become so popular in America? In this workshop we’ll peek into America’s magickal past and how American Pagan traditions have influenced people across the world. From Hoodoo to Pennsylvania Pow-Wow to modern groups such as the Church of All Worlds we’ll look into the origins and inspirations behind some of the most beloved magickal traditions in the United States.  Due to the vast geographical footprint of the United States, the spread of Paganism and Modern Witchcraft followed a very different path than that of its British cousin.  Find out how Paganism spread from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, and why magick is a vital, but often overlooked, part of the American experience.

Jason Mankey is the author of “The Witch’s Book of Shadows,” “The Witch’s Athame” and the forthcoming “Transformative Witchcraft” (all from Llewellyn publications).  He is also a columnist for Witches and Pagans magazine, and the managing editor of the Pagan Portal on Patheos. He talks about rock and roll, Pagan deities, and various aspects of Pagan history at Pagan and magic festivals across North America. Jason lives in California with is wife Ari and can be found online at www.patheos.com/blogs/panmankey.
