The Welsh language has a rich and vibrant history. As the oldest native language of the British Isles still in use, it is spoken in the communities, homes and workplaces of hundreds of thousands of Welsh people.

In this workshop we will learn how to pronounce Welsh, a little grammar and some history of the language and its literature. As this is a practical class, we will look specifically at the magical transformation tale of the great bard, Taliesin, with the aim of being able to read parts of the story aloud. The workshop will conclude with a shared reading of the story in Welsh.

Elin Heron is a teacher, musician and writer with a degree in Welsh from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. She has taught Welsh with Derby Welsh Learner’s Circle and Belper Welsh for fifteen years, as well as running Derbyshire Tarot through which she provides tuition and readings.
