An Evening with…Stephen Ellcock

All Good Things

Join us to celebrate the intrinsic power of imagery with social media curator Stephen Ellcock who will be discussing his new book All Good Things: A Treasury of Images to Uplift the Spirits and Reawaken Wonder

Stephen’s selection of arcane , little known and public domain imagery often chimes deeply with his followers, his Facebook and Instagram pages have become  an ever- expanding, constantly surprising resource, a much-loved online wonder cabinet  of images, visual delights, oddities and wonders drawn from every conceivable culture, era and corner of the globe.

The book’s title is a deliberate reference to the first ever encyclopedia created in England, ‘Omne Bonum’ (All Good Things) by the 14th century clerk James le Palmer.  Stephen’s book is structured to evoke the traditions of ancient and medieval texts– beginning with the act of Creation and travelling through the realms of sky, sea, earth, science and magic, before ending amongst angels, demons, visions of Paradise and glimpses of a world beyond.

Sharing his own discoveries—from found artwork in archives and libraries to little known collections of illustrations, photography and artefacts —Stephen invites us to look afresh at a variety of visual works, revealing hidden patterns, correspondences and meanings, thereby sparking curiosity and reawakening wonder.
